Some trees contain spirits, or demons, that express themselves in the shape that the tree adopts over time. The more dramatic the shape change, the more tormented the spirit. The tree in this photo houses the spirit of an ancient wolf named Lykos. In the snow, near this tree, I have observed the tracks of a creature that leaves the footprints of a dog, but walks on only two legs. Nearby residents say that it's not uncommon to hear the mournful howling of Lykos on cold, windy winter nights especially when there is a clear view of a full, yellow moon. These are good nights to remain indoors.
